where'd my wings go?

I've been wondering how you can tell when you should just drop something? Like how you tell the difference between a rough spot and a sign to stop?

So I have bad news and good news. Since I was little I thought my name was Swedish for 'butterfly'. As it turns out, the very tragic truth for me is that my name doesn't "mean" butterfly and it's not even Swedish. In fact it doesn't mean anything. A genus of butterflies was named Vanessa, but that was after the fact. Who am I, anyway?! Well, the good news is that my name was made up by Jonathan Swift. I suppose if you have to have a name that's just an anagram of a dead guy's friend, it's good that that the guy who made it up was pretty funny. I'm hoping the friend for whom he coined the name was cool too. As a bonus, I feel a special kinship to Swifty -- I too believe Irish children should be eaten.

Yes! I loved loved LOVED Volver! Talk to Her was interesting. The jury's still out on that one. I can't get my head around it. But my favorite is All About My Mother. Materpiece material! I don't think it gets any better than that.

You're right, it's not about the exes. Might it be about me? :-O One of those things that's hard to admit, no matter how true it is...
